If you’re talking the romance of film making, the conversation is always going to centre around lenses and cameras. All of the sexy stuff. Lighting, doesn’t get a look in, which is sad because it so deserves to. If the truth be told, it’s just as important, if not more so, than a good camera and lens. So, I’m intentionally wandering off script to talk about my newest purchase, the Aputure LS 120D mark II.
Firstly, the Aputure LS 120D II has 25 % more power than the original. Power enough to deal with any lighting situation you might come across as a film maker. The D stands for daylight. And if you match this light with the new Aputure soft box, as a separate accessory, then one light is pretty much all you are going to need.
The 120 D II produces a beautiful soft, even light. So the subject, human or inanimate object, is going to look a million bucks. Speaking of price, this light is certainly not the cheapest on the market. If you buy it with a soft box the cost is only slightly south of $2K. Believe me, it is worth every cent. This light out performs competition costing three times that price.
I plan to post some moving images for a practical demonstration of what I am talking about.
Adding the Aputure LS 120 D II to our working kit was a no brainer.
